When a call went out begging people to donate blood as KZN was running out of blood fast, the team based at the Regional Office, did not hesitate and set off to the Umhlanga Rocks Hospital to do their bit. The situation was so dire that most medical procedures has been postponed and arrangements were being made to import blood into the Province for the first time. People on life support, following car accidents and other traumatic events, were at risk of dying as the blood supply dwindled and it was clear that something had to be don

Following their efforts, the South African National Blood Service will be running blood clinics at the Regional Office once every three months, making it so much easier for the rest of the team to donate blood on a regular basis. Losing a friend or family member due to a shortage of blood is simply not an option or reality anyone of us should ever have to face.
